Welcome, freelancers!
A little housekeeping for the launch of our Six-Figure Freelancer Substack
Hello, everyone!
This is an exciting post to write, and one that’s been a long time coming.
In 2016, my co-founder (and best friend) Alex and I opened the doors to the Six-Figure Freelancer, a community that helped thousands of freelancers kick off and grow their freelancing aspirations into high five-, six-, and multi six-figure businesses.
The community was based on my personal experience as a six-figure freelancer. Way back in 2008, I started my business with nothing but $75 and a Hotmail account and grew it quickly to making over $100K per year, with just a handful of clients, working just 15-20 hours a week.
We ran that community and business for several years, until the birth of Pink Shark PR (which many of you reading this know me from) in 2019.
Shortly after the pandemic, it became incredibly hard to build a PR agency (because building agencies are hard, man lol) and run SFF at the same time, and so we put a “pin” in our lovely freelancing community and focused solely on the growth of Pink Shark PR.
Also, it’s worth mentioning that navigating a new PR agency at the start and height of the pandemic is quite the adventure and requires some focus.
Though we took some necessary time to focus on building Pink Shark PR, the Six-Figure Freelancer was always in the back of my mind and heart, since freelancing is where I come from, and one of the areas I feel I can serve people the most.
When I started freelancing back in 2008, online freelance jobs were rarer than they are now (Upwork wasn’t a thing until 2013). Remote work was just starting to take off (nothing like it is now post-pandemic). In order to be successful, I had to deeply embody (and understand) the value that a freelancer brings to both the employer and the contractor. Because of that, I learned how to sell my services in a rich, timeless way that could withstand whatever was happening in the world.
They say timing is everything, but since I learned how to be successful in 2008, there was nothing that came after that time period that could professionally or economically scare me.
If you recall, 2008 was that nasty lil recession - and that’s the work era I cut my teeth on.
Now, with Pink Shark PR all grown up (but still growing) and with recent changes in the world, I’m so proud to say that we are re-launching the Six-Figure Freelancer, the community and our classic trainings that have helped people go from even extreme poverty, to six-figure earners.
Or from dissatisfied employees to replacing their income and never having a “boss” again.
It’s truly my pleasure to be back in the community, and to update the way we share our thoughts, resources, and insights with you all here via this brand spankin’ new Substack.
We’d also love to see you in the community that started it all (which will have different content than on the Substack), so please make sure to request to join.
In the meantime, I would love to hear what freelancing topics you’d love for me to cover, or where you are in your freelancing journey? Sound off in the comments!
And don’t forget, if there’s someone you know who could benefit from this discussion, please subscribe, share and pass it on.
With love,
Jenny
So excited for this!!
